College Preparation Timeline

Bethany Community School's mission includes preparing students to be college-ready learners, and this begins as early as middle school. While the robust college application work ramps up during 11th and. 12th grade, 9th and 10th graders also benefit from tailored college counseling programs and are always welcome to stop by the office with questions.

Freshman Year
This is the year that everything starts to count for real. Everything you do from this point on can and will be included in your college applications.

Academics
First and foremost, learn how to “do school” to the best of your ability. Every semester is a new chance to show your best effort. Be aware that you are building a record that will tell a story over time. Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is your college ticket for admissions and scholarships. Admissions officers look at trends in your grades and upward trends will tell a positive story.

Remember to focus on the areas that will challenge you by taking classes outside of your comfort zone and you will learn valuable skills for college. Be sure to take your teachers’ advice on your course progression. Jumping over content levels can delay the growth of your foundation of understanding and impact your performance in other courses.

Get to know your teachers and learn how to talk with them. Please be confident in
asking for help or clarifications. The more comfortable you become with your teachers now, the more successful you will be in high school and in college. Your professors will expect you to collaborate with them and to take control of your own learning process.

Accomplishments
Your high school year freshman year is also a time to begin to track your accomplishments. Along with your grades, sports, and school activities, universities and colleges will expect you to have completed “community service hours.” These hours can be volunteer work in agencies, your church, and your school. College admissions officials will prefer to see a total of 120 hours by the end of your senior year (30 hours per year). Please be sure to document these hours in your college applications.

Bethany Community School's mission includes preparing students to be college-ready learners.  We can't do that without helping students plan their future and prepare for those all important tests like the SAT and ACT.

BCS uses On To College, a digital resource filled with lessons, sample tests, and video resources to make sure students can maximize their performance.  OTC also provides resources for middle school students to begin mapping their future.  It's never too early to get started!

Bethany Community School is proud to celebrate the achievements of our students with acceptances to a variety of colleges and universities. These logos represent just some of the outstanding institutions our graduates have been admitted to, showcasing their hard work and dedication.
